Engine 1 and Engine 2 responded to a report of a structure fire in the 400 block of 9th Street shortly after 2:00 pm. Crews found smoke showing from the kitchen and quickly knocked down the fire before it could fully involve the attic.
The residents were out of the home and uninjured. Damage was contained to the kitchen and attic space. The department reminds residents to keep a working fire extinguisher in the kitchen and to test smoke alarms monthly.
