Answer the call for Mendota.

We’re accepting applications for paid-on-call and career firefighters. No experience required — we train you from day one.

What it takes

No experience required.

Every member starts with our fire academy — classroom training, live-fire drills, and EMS certification, all paid for by the department. You bring the willingness to show up; we’ll teach you the rest.

  • Minimum age 18, valid driver’s license, and a clean background check.
  • Physical ability to complete academy training (accommodations available where required by law).
  • Ongoing training continues throughout your time on the department.
Ways to serve

Three paths onto the department.

Paid-on-call

Respond from home or work on a pager, with a stipend per call and per training — flexible around your day job.

Career track

Full-time firefighter/EMT positions with shift schedules, benefits, and room to advance.

Explorer program

A hands-on introduction to the fire service for ages 14–18 — no commitment required.

Common questions

Do I need firefighting experience?

No — most of our members joined with zero experience. Our academy trains you from the ground up.

How much time does paid-on-call require?

Weekly training plus availability for calls in your area — most members balance it around a full-time job.

Is there a minimum age?

18 for paid-on-call and career positions; our Explorer program welcomes ages 14–18.

Are paid-on-call positions actually paid?

Yes — a stipend per call and per training session, on top of the experience and camaraderie.
